Atlantic is committed to sustainability, generational knowledge transfer and education in the shipping and insurance sector, as evidenced by its participation in the eighth edition of the sailing pilgrimage to Santiago. One of Atlantic’s main objectives for 2023 is its contribution to sustainability and generational knowledge transfer in the sector, which this year is dedicated to “Blue Education”, an association that promotes maritime careers from an early age. The sailing trip highlights our caring for our planet and consequently the carbon footprint of the voyage will be calculated.

Javier Soriano, Marine Director of Atlantic, will be representing Atlantic on the voyage from La Rochelle to Fuenterrabia.

This is the eighth consecutive event since the experience of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela by sea was created, in what is becoming one of the most special ways for pilgrims to reach the tomb of the Apostle. Taking place from 6 to 29 June, departing from Rochelle and calling at 13 ports along Spain’s northern coast, this year’s series of voyages focuses on two fundamental points:

  1. on sustainability: through collaboration with the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences of the University of León, the carbon footprint – the amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted, expressed as CO2 equivalent – of this voyage will be calculated, with the aim of improving its sustainability strategy for future editions.
  2. bringing the potential of the Blue Economy closer to society in general and to the young public in particular, as this year the voyage will give great visibility to the “Blue Education” as described before.

Atlantic Insurance & Reinsurance Brokers has become an active and participating partner of this important initiative because the two objectives (sustainability and the “Blue Education”) perfectly align with Atlantic’s values.
