Continuando con el Boletín 1051 hemos sido informados que las nuevas restricciones al calado en el Canal de Panamá entrarán en vigor el 8 de septiembre de 2015.
El calado máximo permitido para el tránsito en el Canal de Panamá se establece en 11,89 metros (39.0 pies) Agua Dulce Tropical (Tropical Fresh Water – TFW).
A los buques que hayan cargado antes del 11 de agosto de 2015 se les podrá permitir el tránsito con un calado TFW de hasta 12,04 metros (39.5 pies), sin perjuicio de las razones de seguridad. Los buques que hayan procedido a la carga a partir del 11 de agosto de 2015 deberán cumplir con la nueva restricción y podrían ser obligados a recortar o desembarcar carga, dependiendo en el nivel actual del Lago Gatún en el momento del tránsito. Si el nivel del lago permite el tránsito de buques con un calado más profundo que el anunciado, se les permitirá el tránsito a pesar de no cumplir con la fecha límite de carga.
Los 28 días de advertencia están especialmente dirigidos a los buques que proceden a la carga en puertos lejanos para ajustar sus planes de carga de mercancía, lo que les permitirá cumplir con la restricción al calado una vez completen su largo viaje y lleguen a las aguas del Canal de Panamá.
Los buques podrán proceder a la carga con calados superiores a 11,80 metros (39.0 pies) hasta 12,04 metros (39.5 pies) después del 11 de agosto de 2015, siempre que el tránsito sea previo al 8 de septiembre de 2015.
Se prevé que el calado máximo permitido para el tránsito pueda reducirse aún más a 11,73 metros (38.5 pies) TFW el 15 de septiembre de 2015. Se informará oportunamente si se aprueba la aplicación de esta nueva reducción,

Further to our Bulletin 1051, we have been advised that the new draft restrictions for Panama Canal will be effective from 8 September 2015.
The maximum permitted transit draft for the Panama Canal is set to 11.89 meters (39.0 feet) Tropical Fresh Water (TFW).
Vessels loaded prior 11 August 2015 may be allowed to transit with a TFW draft of up to 12.04 meters (39.5 feet), subject to safety considerations. Vessels loaded on or after 11 August 2015, must comply with the new restriction and may be required to trim or offload cargo, depending on the actual level of Gatun Lake at the time of the transit. If the lake level allows the transit of vessels at a draft deeper than announced, they will be allowed to transit despite not complying with the loading deadline.
The 28 days of warning is specifically directed at vessels that are loading in distant ports to adjust their cargo loading plans, allowing them to comply with the draft restriction once they complete their lengthy trip and arrive to Panama Canal waters.
Vessels may load to drafts deeper than 11.89 meters (39.0 feet) up to 12.04 meters (39.5 feet) after 11 August 2015 provided that they transit prior to 8 September 2015.
It is anticipated that the maximum authorised transit draft may be further reduced to 11.73 meters (38.5 feet) TFW on 15 September 2015. Implementation of this further reduction, if approved, will be further advised.
