Recientemente Signum Services ha gestionado un caso relacionado con polizones sospechosos encontrados a bordo de un buque Ro-Ro que zarpaba de Italia hacia Turquía.
La tripulación encontró a los dos sospechosos quienes no portaban documentos de identificación. El Capitán se puso en contacto con el Guardacostas en Grecia quien organizó que los polizones desembarcaran en una lancha hacia la Isla de Lemnos. Durante la investigación se hizo evidente que subieron a bordo en Italia escondiéndose bajo el chasis de un camión. Su intención era viajar desde ahí hacia Estambul y Siria.
Se manifestó la preocupación de que ambos estuviesen probando una nueva ruta para llegar a Siria evitando ser detectados y unirse a ISIS, o a uno de los otros grupos militantes que combaten en la región. Las autoridades griegas creen que, como polizones a bordo de un buque, evitarían la necesidad de portar documentos de viaje identificativos con fotografía como los que son necesarios en aeropuertos y fronteras.
Más preocupante que esto también podría ser la ruta de regreso después de su formación o de haber combatido en Siria o Irak lo que podría representar una amenaza más importante cuando regresaran a su país de origen.
Hemos sido informados que se han producido un número de incidentes similares en los que se han visto involucrados buques de puertos franceses e italianos, especialmente Marsella.
El objetivo de este boletín es crear conciencia y hacer hincapié en la importancia de mantener procedimientos de seguridad adecuados para prevenir que los polizones puedan acceder a bordo del buque.

Signum Services have recently dealt with a case of suspicious stowaways found on board a Ro-Ro ship sailing from Italy to Turkey.
The two suspects with no identification documents were found by the crew. The Captain contacted the coast guard in Greece who arranged for the stowaways to be taken ashore by launch to the Island of Limnos. During the investigation it became clear that they boarded the vessel in Italy, hiding under the chassis of a truck. Their intention was to travel onwards from Istanbul to Syria.
Concerns were raised that both of them were trying out a new route to get to Syria to avoid detection and join ISIS, or one of the other militant groups fighting in the region. The Greek authorities believe that as stowaways on ships they will avoid the need to have photographic national identification travel documents as used at airports and borders.
More worrying is that this could also be the return route after their training or fighting in Syria or Iraq and could pose a bigger threat to their returning country.
We have been informed that there have been a number of similar incidents involving ships from French and Italian Ports, Marseilles in particular.
This bulletin is intended to raise awareness and emphasise the importance of proper security procedures in order to prevent stowaways from gaining access to the ship.
